Balinese People

The origins of the Balinese people are from three different waves of immigrants, the first of which was from Java and the Kalimantan during the Hindu period who were the pre historic Malay people. The second and third wave was also from Java although the third was after the Islam influence in Java which is responsible for the Islam areas in Bali such as n the far north west and some areas of the north east of Bali.

There are pockets of villages in which fraternization with outsiders is completely restricted, resulting in a people and a culture that the Balinese called Bali Aga (Old Bali), which may curiously be the tunnel that allows us to periscope into the culture of Bali in the past centuries.
